The Friends of Page Park is a Bristol based charity that was set up in 1999 with the aim of protecting and refurbishing Page Park in Bristol. In partnership with South Gloucester Council, various applications were made to try and raise the funds required. The park buildings include an attractive but tired clock tower along with an existing tennis pavilion.
The challenge
As part of the work it was also decided to build a new community Café that can act as a local meeting place whilst also providing an income to aid the financial viability of the park. In order to obtain funding detailed business planning and cost estimates were required to be provided and it is in this area Hookway was able to help.
The solution
Working in close consultation with the design team at Quattro Design Architects, we were able to provide cost estimates and cost advice to enable the proposed scheme designs to be within the anticipated funding application sums and provide invaluable reports to be included in the various funding applications. The chance to work within, and help improve, the local communities in which members of our team live is always relished here at Hookway and so we were delighted to be of assistance.
The result
The project has now received funding of circa two million pounds from various sources to include the Heritage Lottery Fund and Big Lottery and is due to start on site in autumn 2016.
Works will include the new Café, refurbishing the Clock Tower and Tennis Pavilion along with new paths, landscaping, wall repair and railings. When the works are complete it should help to keep the parkat the heart of the local community for years to come. Hookway will be providing full cost management duties throughout the project duration.
